The duodenum is the first of the three parts of the small intestine that receives partially digested food from the stomach and begins with the absorption of nutrients. It is directly attached to the pylorus of the stomach. It has a C-shape, it is closely related to the head of the pancreas and consists of four sections: superior, descending, horizontal, and ascending supply: Superior (anterior, posterior) and inferior pancreaticoduodenal arteries. As a whole, the duodenum loop lies to the right on the abdominal wall. Its peritoneal layers stick and fuse to the peritoneal layer that lines the abdominal cavity parietally. The duodenum thus becomes "secondarily retroperitoneal".The transition between the foregut and midgut are found on the vertex of the duodenal loop, there where the liver and pancreas anlagen arise.
The duodenum. The duodenum is the first segment of the small intestine and is also the shortest (about 25 centimeters, or roughly 10 inches). It starts at the pylorus and ends at the duodenojejunal junction. The length of the duodenum in man is approximately 25–30 cm (the width of about 12 fingers—hence the name); its volume is – ml. The wall of the duodenum consists of three layers: the inner layer of mucous membrane, the middle layer of muscular membrane, and the external layer of serous membrane.

Radiology of the Stomach and Duodenum aims to “provide useful and informative reading for any radiologist with an interest in the stomach and duodenum.” It is part of the extensive Medical Radiology series. As noted in the book's foreword, the intended audience includes, in addition to general and specialized gastrointestinal radiologists, “gastroenterologists and abdominal surgeons, who.

The duodenum is the shortest segment of the intestine and is about 23 to 28 cm (9 to 11 inches) long. It is roughly horseshoe-shaped, with the open end up and to the left, and it lies behind the anatomic and functional grounds, the duodenum. Numerous illustrations of both endoscopic views and endoscopic ultrasound are included. The book is aimed at practicing radiologists or endoscopists to show the advantages and disadvantages of various techniques of examining the upper GI : Hardcover.

The junction between these two regions lies at the mid-point of the duodenum, at the level of the entry of the bile duct (Fig.
).Whereas initially the lumen of the duodenum is hollow, by the second month proliferation of its cellular lining results in a solid duodenum. Duodenal cancer is a rare form of cancer in the gastrointestinal tract.
When cancer cells begin to form in the duodenum, tumors can block food from passing through the digestive intestinal stromal tumor: Tumors from this cancer form in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract walls.

The duodenum's location is just beneath the stomach, and sits to the right of the body. It measures about 12 inches long, and is connected not only to the stomach and the jejunum – the second part of the small intestine – but to the gallbladder, liver, and pancreas as well, through an orifice known as the ampulla of Vater, which sits to the center of the duodenum.
A number of imaging techniques, many of them complementary, are used in the investigation and treatment of disorders of the stomach and duodenum. Optimal patient treatment requires a thorough knowledge of the application of these techniques, as well as a sound understanding of pathology of the stomach and its presenting symptomatology.

duodenum [doo″o-de´num] the first or proximal portion of the small intestine, about 25 cm (10 inches) long, extending from the pylorus to the jejunum. It plays an important role in digestion of food because both the common bile duct and the pancreatic duct empty into it.
It is subject to various disorders, the most common of which are peptic ulcers. The duodenum is an organ located just below the stomach and its functions include the continuation of the digestion process and the regulation of gastric emptying. The organ is a part of the small intestine, and it is found in most vertebrates, such as mammals, birds and reptiles.
